JULIE & JULIA ***

The last movie by Nora Ephron, "Julie & Julia" draws the stories combined of one Americon icon, the formidable Julia Child, interpreted by Meryl Streep and Julie Powell interpreted by Amy Adams, one happy blogger (by happy blogger, I mean one with readers, comments, a book deal and a movie adaptation) played by the sweet Amy Adams who was also formidable in Junebug and is doing a pretty good job in this film. The Julia Child part of the story is probably the best, because Meryl Streep is doing one of her favorite numbers, which is getting into character like the diva she really is and there is enough footage of the real Julia to make the magic work. The Julie character is somehow less interesting but the third ingredient of the story, French cooking, makes the whole recipe work. Julia Child was the American expat who is famous for having introduced a generation of American wives to "bouffe' Bourguignon and the delight of butter. Julie Powell is famous for having blogged her recipes in one year, the gimmick that brought her success but it is still a gimmick. It is a nice little movie that makes you want to cook some sole meuniere sur le champ, c'est vrai, but truth be told, without a good sole that looks you in the eye, you won't go too far...
I don't want to be a french pest but "bouffe" is not that good, "boeuf" is much nicer. In order to pronounce it right you need to pretent that you are about to give a kiss.... you know how to do that ? Just put your lips together and blow !!!

Le dernier film de Nora Ephron, "Julie & Julia" raconte les histoires parallèles d'une icône Américaine, la formidable Julia Child, interprêtée par Meryl Streep et Julie Powell interprêtée par Amy Adams, une blogueuse heureuse (par blogueuse heureuse, j;'entends une blogueuse avec lecteurs, commentaires, un contrat d'éditeur et une adaptation cinématographique) jouée par la délicieuse Amy Adams qui était aussi formidable à sa manière dans Junebug et s'en sort très bien dans Julie & Julia. La partie Julia Child de l'histoire est sans doute la meilleure, parce que Meryl Streep fait songrand numéro et elle le fait bien. Le personnage de Julie lui, a moins de substance mais le troisième ingrédient du film, la cuisine française fait que la recette marche. Julia Child était une expat américaine à Paris dans les années cinquante qui est célèbre pour avoir apporté le savoir culinaire français à une génération de femmes américaines sous la forme de "bouffe' Bourguignon et tonnes de beurre frais. . Julie Powell est célèbre pour avoir blogué les recettes du livre de cuisine de Julia pendant un an. Le film est charmant et vous donne envie d'aller vous faire cuire un oeuf ou une sole meunière sur le champ, c'est vrai, mais pour trouver aux Etats-Unis une bonne sole normande fraiche aux yeux qui vous disent que c'est bon, vous pouvez y aller, un peu de farine, beaucoup de beurre et un filet de citron, vous pouvez toujours vous coucher de bonne heure !
