This documentary from Harry Moses is about Teri Horton's adventure in the art world. Teri Horton is a 70-something stubborn Texan truck driver who bought a coulourful painting from a thrift store for $5. She hated it and wanted to get rid of it at a garage sale when an art teacher told her that the “ugly” painting could very well be a Jackson Pollock! “Who the fuck is Jackson Pollock” famously responded Teri. From then on, we follow the saga of the poor woman into the rich art world not very eager to embrace her and her “so-called” Pollock! In spite of revealing fingerprints, the “provenance” of the painting is far too shady for the art dealers. What is really amazing in this story is the stubborness of Teri Horton and her logical thinking too: she is told the painting would be worth around $50 million so why accept $2 and even $20 million offers. If it is a Pollock, the price is at $50 millions. If it is not a Pollock then why pay $2 or $20 millions... Meanwhile... the painting lies in storage.

Teri Horton est une chauffeur de poids lourd Texanne de 70 ans qui a acheté une peinture dans une brocante pour la modeste somme de $5 dollars. Un tableau qu’elle trouve moche et dont elle a hâte de se débarasser. Elle profite d’un garage sale (sorte de vente vide-grenier à l’Américaine) pour le refiler au plus offrant lorsqu’un prof d’art de passage l’informe que le tableau en question ressemble étrangement à un Pollock. “Jackson Pollquoi?” répond à peu près la dame ! A partir de là, on suit la saga de la pauvre femme au pays des arts dealers. En dépit d’empreintes révélatrices et autres preuves, le monde de l’art n’est pas prêt d’accueillir une prolo dans ses rangs, c’est clair et de fait refuse d’avance d’authentifier le tableau. Ce qui est particulièrement fascinant dans cette histoire, c’est la ténacité de Teri Horton et son implacable logique : le tableau est estimé à près de $50 millions alors quand on lui offre $2 puis $20 millions pour le tableau, elle refuse. Si c’est un Pollock, il vaut plus et si ce n’est pas un Pollock, pourquoi payer des millions ? Pendant ce temps... la peinture dort dans un hangar.
