"Encounters at the end of the world" is the latest documentary by Werner Herzog : it is a little bit about Antartica, - another planet rather than another continent - , it is extremely beautiful to watch (the underwater footage is surreal). It is also much more entertaining than one might expect since it focuses on the strange creatures that inhabit the continent. Creatures like weird mammals with strange facial hair, odd behavior, huge brains, PhDs and their female counterpart ! I’m just half kidding since WH seems genuinely intrigued and interested by the community that inhabits the desert of ice and makes an attempt at communicating with them in a very touching and poetic way. Even when WH focuses on the seals and the penguins, we, for some reason, still have the PhDs in mind!
"Encounters at the end of the world" est le dernier documentaire de Werner Herzog : il traite un petit peu de l’Antartique, - une autre planète plutôt qu’un autre continent-, il est magnifique à regarder (la photo sous-marine est exceptionnelle). WH choisit de s’attarder sur une espèce animale bien spécifique au comportement plus qu’étrange. Créatures du type barbus, grosses têtes, couverts de diplômes et leur équivalent au féminin : les scientifiques quoi ! Je ne plaisante qu’à moitié, WH est sincérement intrigué par les “habitants” de la planète Antartique et tente de communiquer avec eux d’une façon touchante et intéressante aussi. Même quand WH s’attarde sur les phoques et les pingouins, on voit bien qu’il a toujours les chercheurs en tête !
