AUSTRALIA ***

Any story with the words songlines, walkabout and dreams talks to me so but "Australia", Baz Luhrman's big saga with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman did not. It's not a very good film because it is an hybrid between epic, romance, cartoon, ad and soap opera, never finds its voice, never finds its identity. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman are a terrible screen-couple, there is no chemistry between them and besides, it is a bit like imagining Hulk and Olive Oyl having an affair... far from sexy, really. I did enjoy Nicole Kidman interpretation of Over the rainbow which was probably the most enjoyable moment in the film. As far Hugh Jackman, true, he has been elected the sexiest man alive by People Magazine but he doesn't have a neck. I like necks. No neck is OK when you are a baby or Marlon Brando, it's not OK when you are supposed to be the sexiest man alive, it is not sexy, it is freakish and weird and by comparison, it makes Nicole Kidman's neck look like a hose. Not good either.

Habituellement et si j'entends les mots songlines, walkabout et dreams, je suis conquise mais malgré cela je n'ai pas aimé "Australia", le dernier bizarro film de Baz Luhrman avec Nicole Kidman. Ce n'est pas un très bon film parce que c'est un peu tout et n'importe quoi. Nicole Kidman et Hugh Jackman forment un couple naze à l'écran et il n'y a aucune étincelle entre eux. Un peu comme si on imaginait une histoire d'amour entre Goldorak et Pimprenelle... pas vraiment sexy. Il y a un bon moment dans le film et c'est celui où Nicole Kidman chante très faux la chanson du Magicien d'Oz "Over the rainbow". Quant à Hugh Jackman, malgré le fait qu'il ait été récemment élu l'homme le plus sexy de la planète par le magazine People, il n'a pas de cou. C'est important le cou. Ne pas en avoir, passe encore si on est un petit bébé ou Marlon Brando mais ça ne marche pas si on est soi-disant l'homme le plus sexy de la planète. C'est trop bizarre et en plus, le cou de Kidman a l'air d'un tuyau d'arrosage par comparaison. Pas terrible non plus.
