The only difference between a Hallmark world premiere event Sunday movie and the French film “I’ve loved you so long” is Kristin Scott Thomas. She is excellent even though we need the obnoxious intervention of a 8 year old early on in the film to explain that she is half-English which explains why her French is not 100% kasher. There are a zillion ways to speak French but Kristin Scott Thomas’s French definitely has a foreign flavor, a delicate English touch that betrays her... and believe me, I know what I am talking about. Funny that speakers of a foreign language do not really hear their accents, only when they are recorded. The film is OK and the main two female characters are pretty good. The rest is pretty much caricature and doesn’t work so well. Not a masterpiece and could have done without the annoying little kid (very cute but really obnoxious) but an OK good little provincial drama with a real drama queen... Kristin!
La seule différence entre le grand film du dimanche et “Il y a longtemps que je t’aime” est ... Kristin Scott Thomas. Elle est magnifique dans son rôle même si on a besoin de l’intervention d’une petite fille de 8 ans dans le film pour nous expliquer que si elle a un léger accent, c’est parce qu’elle est à moitié Anglaise. Il y a des milliers de façons de parler français et c’est vrai que le parler de Kristin Scott-Thomas est subtilement teinté d’une légère intonation Anglaise... très léger cela dit et croyez-moi je suis experte en la matière. C’est drôle de penser qu’on entend rarement son propre accent quand on vit dans une langue étrangère sauf s’il est enregistré... et puis, on entend surtout celui des autres parce que on ne s’écoute jamais vraiment parler quand on exprime une pensée. Bref, le film est correct et les deux personnages principaux féminins sont excellents. Quant au reste, on aurait pu s’en passer. Pas un chef d’oeuvre mais un vrai grand rôle pour Kristin Scott-Thomas, assez divine dans son genre... la reine Christine quoi!
