Well, as W used to say at the time of his pre-shoe-thrown-in-the-face glory, "somebody has to put food on the family" and in the Curious case of Benjamin Button, we have to assume that Brad Pitt badly needs a paycheck in order to feed Cheeto’s to his little gang of toddlers and Cate Blanchett also has three hungry mouths to feed ! The Curious case of Benjamin Button is so awful it could be funny and at times it is, only it ‘s never when it is intended to be. I don’t know who had the awful idea to turn this very allegorical short-story by Scott Fitzgerald into a Hollywood holiday movie but it is nothing short of a Katrina. Katrina is actually hovering above the whole movie like an helicopter Mom and for good reason. It is utter nonsense with unfortunate reminder of Forrest Gump in the treatment and other lame (and widely popular) MacMovies that the studios love to bank on. I don’t think there is one scene that I liked in the entire movie which says a lot coming from me who can find grace in keanu Reeves and charisma in Jennifer Connelly (see review from the Day the earth stood still which by comparison and by the way is a masterpiece compared to Benjamin Button).
Brad Pitt a besoin de nourrir sa famille comme chacun le sait trop bien et Cate Blanchett aussi mais dans quelle mesure est-ce que cela peut vraiment justifier leurs performances dans ce rossignol au long bec qu’est The Curious case of Benjamin Button ? Rien n’est moins sûr ! Ce film est un désastre, un Katrina, une Bérézina, un Waterloo de film qui n’est même pas drôle quand il se veut drôle et hilarant quand il est supposé vous toucher droit au coeur... L’idée même de transposer cette nouvelle plus qu’allégorique de Scott Fitzgerald en véhicule Hollywoodien était une très mauvaise idée... Le film est ridicule dans un genre à la Forrest Gump, un MacMovie dont seul Hollywood a le secret et venant de quelqu’un qui peut trouver une certaine grâce à Keanu Reeves et un certain je ne sais quoi à Jennifer Connelly (voir commentaire sur The Day the earth stood still qui par comparaison est un chef d’oeuvre d’intelligence et de subtilité...) : c’est vous dire !
