REVOLUTIONARY ROAD/LES NOCES REBELLES ***

Revolutionary road is not about the destroying power of American suburbia ; what we witness in this film is simply the death of love and it could take place anywhere, anytime in the world. It takes place in the heart. Two people falling in love and slowly, deliberately killing their love is what we see: they do it with selfishness, cruelty, madness, but they also do it almost in spite of themselves and that is what is the most painful to watch. Once they have crossed the line and started hurling insults and accusations at each other, it’s already too late, love slips away from them like water going down the drain, forever gone with the leftovers of a daily life that wasn’t the one they have dreamed of but wasn’t such a mistake either. Too late to take it back, too late for apologies, too late to fix, driving one of them –and maybe both- to the point of no return. Leo and Kate AKA Jack and Rose of Titanic fame, form a fine couple on screen and they seem to take a guilty pleasure at destroying this bond/chemistry/attraction/love they once had 10 years ago in a movie that was for both of them a blessing and a curse. Revolutionary Road is the antidote for Titanic. It’s also a painful tale about people who forget that love is fragile and if you don’t pay attention, if you don’t participate to some degree, if you are all wrapped in yourself, then it goes away and there is nothing left.

Revolutionary road n’est pas vraiment sur le pouvoir destructeur des banlieues Américaines, ce à quoi on assiste dans ce film est la mise à mort d’un amour et cela pourrait se passer n’importe quand, n’importe ou dans le monde. Ca se passe dans le coeur. Deux individus s’aiment passionnément et doucement, ils tuent leur amour à coup d’égoisme, de cruauté, de folie mais ils le font presque malgré eux et c’est cela qui est le plus tragique. Une fois qu’ils ont franchi le pas, qu’ils ont entamé la ronde des insultes, des accusations et des injures, c’est déjà trop tard, l’amour leur file entre les doigts entrainant avec lui toutes les petites choses d’une vie peut être imparfaite mais qui n’était au fond pas si terrible que cà. Trop tard pour reculer, trop tard pour les excuses, les réparations et le reste, ils atteignent le point de non retour. Leo et Kate AKA Jack et Rose de mémoire de Titanic forment un beau couple à l’écran et ils semblent prendre plaisir à détruire ce lien/cette chimie/ cette attraction/cet amour qu’ils jouaient si bien il y a 10 ans dans un film qui était tout à la fois une bénédiction et une malédiction pour eux. Revolutionary Road est la parfaite antidote à Titanic. C’est aussi l’histoire fascinante et douloureuse d’un couple qui s’auto-détruit, l’histoire d’individus qui oublient l’espace d’un instant que l’amour est une chose fragile et que si on ne fait pas attention, si on ne joue pas vraiment le jeu, si on est centré juste sur soi-même et ses émotions alors, l’amour s’en va et il ne reste plus rien.
