SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE ***

Yes, Slumdog Millionaire is worth seeing... its cast is absolutely wonderful, and the children are fantastic. Everybody by now knows that it is the story of a kid from the slums of Mumbai who wins big on a TV game show because he is driven by love and destiny. The scenario is well done, there are no loose ends but in spite of its appeal and its good intentions it doesn't totally avoid the biggest trap which is named "the Pretty Woman Syndrome" ! I hate to say this and it is a really good and feel-good movie but if you really watch for the undertones.... there is a slight "pretty woman" flavor even in the structure of the film. It bothered me a little but no more than that. It remains a very good surprise, especially if you look at the toxic Hollywood harvest this year.

Oui, Slumdog Millionaire vaut le déplacement... sa distribution est formidable et les enfants en particulier sont excellents. Tout le monde sait qu'il s'agit de l'histoire d'un enfant des bidonvilles de Mumbai qui gagne le gros lot dans un concours télévisé parce qu'il est guidé par l'amour et le destin. Le scénario est bien fait, tout est extrèmement bien ficelé mais justement... un peu trop bien et les ficelles deviennent parfois apparentes et le film tombe parfois dans le piège plus connu sous le nom de "Syndrome de pretty-woman" ! Le film fonctionne très bien et je dois avouer que je l'ai aimé malgré cela MAIS.... il n'y a rien de plus agaçant que ce côté "pretty woman" que l'on retrouve dans la structure même du film. Slumdog millionaire reste malgré tout une bonne surprise, surtout si l'on considère la moisson Hollywoodienne légèrement toxique cette année !
