LARS AND THE REAL GIRL

Like Little Miss Sunshine last year, Lars and the real girl is a real sleeper of a movie that could go far... to the Oscars maybe thanks to wonderful acting and tactful directing. The only downside would be that it is your typical indie recipe: the dysfunctional family, the great community of good american people to the rescue, the avoidance of a too obvious happy ending. But it is a good story and it makes the audience laugh, cry, relate and even care for Lars's girl friend, a sex doll ordered through the internet that is slowly but surely going to help him emerge from a childhood trauma and an inability to bare any kind of human touch. Ryan Gosling is brilliant in his portrayal of the disturbed Lars. The scene where we see him giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a stuffed teddy bear is as touching as lovely and by contrast, the scene where he has an anxiety attack in the office of the psychiatrist as he tries to explain how any kind of human physical touch is torture is as touching as painful. All the actors are great but none of them can match Bianca, the sex doll... we actually and gradually start to feel for her as much as Lars and the rest of the community. When she gets sick.... she could make a crocodile cry. She could very well get nominated for an Oscar for her role ! She actually has more talent, charisma and substance as an actress than a Paris Hilton, a Madonna. and a Demi Moore combined...

Lars and the real girl pourrait avoir un effet Little Miss Sunshine sur la production de fin d'année, celle qui court droit aux Oscars. Le seul point faible de ce film typiquement indépendant est qu'il reprend la recette habituelle: famille dysfonctionnelle, petite communauté floklorique aux petits soins et pas de happy end trop facile et trop typiquement Hollywoodien. Cela dit l'histoire fonctionne grâce a son originalité et sa sensibilité. On rit, on pleure, on se pince pour être sûr qu'on ne rêve pas et on se fait même du mauvais sang pour Bianca, la poupée gonflable petite amie du pauvre Lars engoncé dans ses pulls Islandais et son grave traumatisme. Ryan Gosling est brillant dans son interprétation de Lars mais cet acteur est brillant quoiqu'il fasse, même des navets genre Notebook. La scène ou il tente de ranimer un ours en peluche en lui faisant du bouche a bouche est aussi touchante que juste et celle ou il explique a la psychiatre la douleur qu'il ressent quand on le touche est stupéfiante de sincérité... et de douleur. Tous les acteurs de ce film sont parfaits, mais pas un n'arrive a la cheville (flexible) de Bianca, la poupée gonflable... on se prend a se faire du souci pour sa sante et a s'attacher a elle. On en vient presqu'aux larmes quand elle tombe malade... c'est elle qui pourrait fort bien récolter une nomination aux Oscars grâce a son talent et son charisme qui dépasse de loin les performances d'une Paris Hilton, d'une Madonna voire d'une Demi Moore !
