SOOOO NOTHING!

I don’t want to sound like Paris Hilton but there is soooooooo nothing to see at the movie this week! It is Superbowl week end too so half of the country is going to feast on hot dogs and burgers while gulping beers and sodas. It almost makes me miss the smell of popcorn: a Midas and Orkin kind of smell if you really want to know. Playing at the movies this week are:

The eye: it is a remake of a Hong-Kong thriller with Jessica Alba as the young blind violinist who receives an eye transplant and starts having terrifying visions after surgery.
I suggest watching the Hong-Kong original movie at home instead (DVD).

Strange wilderness: A funny haha movie involving geeks and Bigfoot. I can bet that you’ll get the best parts -if there are any- from the preview and the rest will be painful to watch unless you have something or someone to keep you busy next to you and since I do not recommend popcorn…
I suggest watching Sean Penn’s "Into the wild" if it is playing at a theatre near you or watching "The Wild One", Stanley Kramer’s 1954 take on American youth and motorcycles with Marlon Brando (available on DVD).

Over her dead body: Watch the preview and send me a thank you note afterwards for having helped you save time and money. I suggest watching the very funny 1992 comedy "Death becomes her" instead with Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Isabella Rossellini. How two vain Hollywood divas chase the ghost of eternal youth. Priceless.

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: best of both worlds concert tour: This is Disney’s latest product which works very well with teenagers. I suggest watching Gus Van Sant “Last Days” with the other Pitt (Michael) about the last days of a music icon dying of stardom (inspired by the life of Kurt Cobain). Now THIS is teen spirit!

Also playing in a theatre near you if you are lucky (I am not), Caramel by Nadine Labaki, a Lebanese movie about five women who meet regularly in a beauty parlor. I could watch “Venus beauté” instead but it probably doesn’t have the same flavor (even though the caramel of the title has more to do with unwanted facial hair than candy).

Il n’y a pas grand chose à voir au cinéma cette semaine. C’est le week end de Superbowl ce qui veut dire qu’une bonne partie du pays va se retrouver scotché à l’écran de television, une bière à la main et un hot-dog dans l’autre, et ça, c’est du sport!!! Cela me rend presque nostalgique pour les odeurs de popcorn, ce mélange d’huile de vidange et de Baygon anti-rampants auquel il est difficile de résister mais malheureusement les sorties de la semaine ne sont pas particulièrement attirantes. Au programme cette semaine:
The eye: il s’agit du remake du film chinois de Hong-Kong du même nom. Cette fois c’est Jessica Alba qui joue le rôle de la jeune violoniste aveugle de naissance à qui l’on greffe des yeux tout neufs. Peu de temps après, la jeune femme souffre de visions terrifiantes. Comme les originaux sont souvent plus intéressants que les remachâges, je propose de regarder la version HK en DVD. Ecouter, regarder et lire les sous-titres en même temps, ça, c’est du sport!

Strange wilderness: La comédie lourdasse du jour avec des nuls qui chassent le yéti. A parier que la bande annonce suffit largement. Mieux vaut voir “Into the wild” de Sean Penn s’il joue toujours au cinema ou revoir “The Wild One” de Stanley Kramer (1954) savec le sublimissimo Marlon Brando. Seul point commun entre ces trois films: il y a “wild” dans le titre.

Over her dead body: Regardez la bande annonce et envoyez-moi une note de remerciement pour voir avoir fait économiser du temps et de l’argent. Vous pouvez toujours choisir de revoir la comédie de 1992 “Death becomes her” avec Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn et Isabella Rossellini. Comment deux divas de Hollywood sur le retour chassent l’elixir de jeunesse. Croustillant!

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: best of both worlds concert tour: dernier produit Disney pour ados. Plutôt regarder le film de Gus Van Sant “Last Days” avec l’autre Pitt (Michael) sur les derniers jours d’une idole (inspiré par la vie de Kurt Cobain). Ca, c'est du teen spirit, la Hannah Montana n'est que du teen product.

Si vous avez de la chance (je n’en ai pas) “Caramel” de Nadine Labaki, un film Libanais sur cinq femmes qui se retrouvent régulièrement dans un salon de beauté, joue peut-être dans un cinéma près de chez vous. A défaut, on peut revoir “Venus beauté” mais la saveur n’y sera pas (même si le caramel du titre n’a rien à avoir avec la confiserie mais plus à voir avec l’arrachage des poils rebelles).
